95/100p Decanter Magazine: The 2003 vintage had long periods of dry weather, including the notorious European heatwave of early August, which all led to a lower than usual yield in the Douro. However, like 2000, this was a vintage known for quality over quantity. This wine is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, and the wine aged for 18 months before being bottled in 2005. RM Deep and sullen, but with underlying fruit and definition. Fresh, ripe berry fruit and broad tannins with bitter chocolate concentration and some sweet blackcurrant freshness on the finish. Good definition. SJ Bombastic and hedonistic nose. Heady violets are layered with chocolate richness and ripe black fruit. Velvety tannins and fresh acidity give structure and scope for ageing further. Long and engaging.
