An amazing rarity from the cool western part of the Rioja wine region at 500-600 meters above sea level, white wine aged for nine months in oak barrels, with the varieties Viura and Garnacha Blanca. The wine is dry and comparatively full; the aromas emphasize citrus, yellow plum, floral, and oak-like smoothness. It tastes full, fresh, slightly oak-tinted and balanced. Great white wine for rich fish, duck ears and other light meats.
Alegre Valgañón is a small artesan winery in the northwest corner of the Rioja wine region, in the village of Sajazara, at the foot of the Obarenes Mountains. The company is a joint venture between Oscar Alegre and Eva Valgañón and owns only 3.4 hectares of vineyards. Supplementary grapes can also be obtained from the vineyards owned by Eva’s family. The majority of the vineyards are located in the areas of the villages of Sajazarra, Fonzalec and Salinillas, but there are also plantations in the south of Rioja, in the village of Cárdenas, dedicated to the cultivation of Garnacha.
Eva has extensive experience in her family’s vineyards, and Oscar has previously worked at high-end resorts such as Alvaro Palacios and Telmo Rodriguez. Oscar also owns another wine company, Fine Rioja Wines, which focuses on the sale of long-served Rioja quality wines.
