Olivier Merlin

The story of Olivier Merlin and his wife Corinne as vine-growers began in 1987 when they acquired the 4.5 hectare Domaine du Vieux Saint-Sorlin in the village of La Roche-Vineuse, in the Mâconnais region. In 1997, Merlin expanded its activities to include the small-scale négociant business, buying grapes from selected growers, particularly in the Pouilly-Fuissé and Viré-Clessé regions. Today, the house manages about 25 acres of crops. The house gardens are grown according to organic farming rules, but Merlin is not seeking certification of production. In 2017, the couple’s sons Paul and Théo joined the farm, making the future of the farm dynamic and secure. Olivier Merlin is sometimes referred to as ‘the wizard of Mâconnais’, reflecting his general esteem for the region’s top wines. Since 2012, Olivier Merlin and Dominique Lafon, the legendary winemaker from the village of Meursault, have been joint owners of what is perhaps the finest vineyard in the Pouilly-Fuissé region, the Clos des Quarts, which covers 2,65 hectares and some of the vines were planted in 1917. The premium white wine produced from this vineyard is sold under a separate Château des Quarts brand.
