The famous Guigal winery was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal. In 1961 Marcel Guigal took over, whose son Philippe is now the house’s operational manager. From its humble beginnings, the artisanal estate has grown to become one of the most important producers in the Rhône and its vineyards in the hills of the Côte-Rôtie and the Hermitage have a legendary reputation. The most famous gardens of the house are the Côte-Rôtier trio; La Landonne, la Mouline and La Turque. These high-quality wines have been rated by critics as high as 100. In 1995, Guigal bought the historic Château d’Ampuis, which was subsequently renovated for 11 years to its current glory. Guigal has also acquired a number of vineyards in the Rhône over the years in order to accelerate its expansion.
